Client: Wagners Service
Provider: SWIA (SEQ Team)
Project Type: Weighbridge Refit and Digital System Upgrade Following Lightning Strike
SWIA was engaged by Wagners immediately following a severe storm event that resulted in a lightning strike to an existing weighbridge installation. The incident caused damage to multiple weighbridge system components, impacting system functionality, load-cell integrity, and operational weighing accuracy.
Leveraging SWIA’s extensive experience in industrial weighing systems and digital weighbridge upgrades, the SEQ service team responded rapidly to assess, diagnose, and restore the site with a robust, future-ready digital weighing solution.
Rapid Response and Technical Assessment
The SWIA SEQ team was mobilised without delay and attended site to conduct a comprehensive technical weighbridge assessment. This assessment included detailed inspection, testing, of all critical system components, including:
- Weighbridge load cells
- Weighbridge cabling and conduits
- Digital loadcell junction boxes
- Weighbridge instrumentation and indicators
- Associated peripheral and control equipment
Within 24 hours of the initial site visit, SWIA delivered a complete fault diagnosis and system upgrade recommendation, enabling Wagners to quickly evaluate remediation options and minimise operational disruption.
System Upgrade and Installation
Following Wagners’ review and approval of the proposed remediation strategy, SWIA was authorised to proceed with a full weighbridge system upgrade. The scope of works included:
- Safe decommissioning and removal of all lightning-damaged equipment
- Installation of a 16-cell SWIA Digital loadcell system
- Integration of digital load cells and junction boxes with the existing weighbridge structure
All works were completed within four days of the purchase order being issued, ensuring minimal downtime and a rapid return to full operational capability for site operations.
Improved Performance, Accuracy, and Lightning Resilience
The upgraded SWIA digital weighbridge system delivers measurable improvements in:
- Loadcell integrity and electrical noise immunity
- Weighing accuracy and long-term measurement stability
- System reliability and enhanced lightning resilience
- Simplified diagnostics, serviceability, and future upgrade capability
Importantly, the new digital loadcells were installed while maintaining full compatibility with the existing weighbridge structure, demonstrating SWIA’s ability to retrofit and upgrade digital weighbridge systems to virtually any existing installation, regardless of manufacturer or age.
Project Outcomes
The successful completion of this project highlights:
- SWIA’s adaptive digital weighbridge technology
- Rapid response and efficient project execution
- Over 30 years of experience in weighbridge and industrial weighing systems
- A strong commitment to service continuity, system reliability, and customer support
This project serves as a clear example of SWIA’s capability to respond quickly to critical incidents, delivering robust, accurate, and future-ready weighbridge solutions for Australian industry.
